Your unique piece in detail

Made for each other. HomeView is made to be seen. The Marble Base gives it the place to be: a round disc of solid Calacatta Viola, as wide as its body, 18 mm high. On top lies a fine recess into which its foot gently settles. It stands calm and centred, and the two look as if cast in one piece.

From the block, not from a mould. Calacatta Viola comes from the Apuan Alps in Tuscany: a mosaic of cream, rosé and grey, set in wine red. No casting, no print, no film. Solid stone of about 260 grams, a weight you feel the moment you pick it up.

Beautiful without HomeView, too. When your HomeView stands elsewhere, the base becomes a small tray: for keys, rings or AirPods in the hallway, on the desk or by the bed.

Pre-order. The Marble Base comes in a first, small run. You order now at the launch price; after that the regular price applies. The ship date is shown next to the price. Meant as a gift for the holidays.

Stone & origin

Calacatta Viola comes from the Apuan Alps above Carrara, the same mountains Michelangelo took the blocks for his sculptures from. Marble has been quarried here since Roman times. Quarrymen once lowered the blocks, weighing many tonnes, down the slopes on wooden sledges and ropes, a deadly trade they called lizzatura.

The stone itself tells of a catastrophe in slow motion: as the Alps folded up, pale marble shattered into angular shards, and iron- and manganese-bearing rock cemented them together again, in wine red and violet, like Chianti between porcelain. Polished, it is a mosaic no one ever laid. Every veneer is a composition of its own.
