Luxury iPhone 18 Pro Max Case: Which Material Is Worth It?

Luxury iPhone 18 Pro Max Case: Which Material Is Worth It?

Shopping for a luxury iPhone 18 Pro Max case usually comes down to five materials: leather, metal, wood, carbon and stone. In product photos they all look premium. The real differences show up after a few weeks of daily use – how the surface feels, how it ages, whether wireless charging still works, and whether your case ends up looking like everyone else's. This guide compares them fairly. Everything here applies to the iPhone 17 Pro Max too, which plenty of people still carry and want to dress up.

What makes a premium iPhone case worth it

A high price alone does not make a case premium. Five questions get you most of the way:

  • Feel: warm or cool, smooth or grippy?
  • Ageing: does the material build a patina, or stay as it is?
  • Weight: the Pro Max is already a substantial phone, and every case adds to it.
  • Wireless charging: does it work through the back?
  • Uniqueness: is your case a production part or a one-off?

Leather, metal, wood, carbon and stone compared

Leather

Leather is the classic choice. It feels warm and soft and adds little bulk. Over time it absorbs skin oils, light and friction and develops a patina: edges darken and the spots you hold most take on a sheen. Some people love that; others feel the case looks worn after a year. Wireless charging is rarely an issue. Leather is only partly unique – the grain is natural, but one case looks much like the next.

Metal

Aluminium or titanium look precise and technical and match the iPhone's own frame. Metal feels cool but is often smooth and slippery. It ages through scratches and dents rather than patina, and anodised edges can wear through. The key point: a solid metal back and wireless charging don't get along well, which is why many metal cases rely on frames or cut-outs.

Wood

Wood is warm, light and has a visible grain, so each piece looks a little different. It darkens with age and reacts to moisture and skin oils; oiled finishes need occasional care. Wireless charging generally works through thin wood. The look is relaxed and natural rather than formal.

Carbon

Carbon or aramid fibre cases are very thin and very light – the right pick if minimal added weight is your priority. The look is sporty and technical, and the weave is industrial and identical on every case. Carbon barely shows age, but it never gains character either. For wireless charging, check the maker's specifications.

Stone

Stone is the least expected material on this list. It feels cool, even after minutes in your hand, and depending on the type it is either polished smooth or split and grippy. It ages without patina: no darkening, no shiny grip marks. The veining you see on day one stays. And every stone case is one of a kind, because no two pieces of stone are alike. The honest trade-off: polished marble is softer than quartzite and sensitive to acids such as lemon juice. If you want something less delicate, choose quartzite or matt slate.

How heavy is a genuine stone case?

Stone sounds heavy. At ROXXLYN, the stone is a veneer of 0.8–1.2 mm on a flexible carrier layer – not brittle like porcelain, but real stone that copes with daily life. That keeps a case at approx. 40 g. Wireless charging works straight through the stone. MagSafe magnets are not built in as standard; you can add them as an option in the configurator.

Two ways to a stone case at ROXXLYN

The classic stone case: iPhone 13 to 18 Pro Max

Our classic cases set a veneer of marble, slate or lapis lazuli into a Bayer TPU frame with a raised edge and Alcantara lining. They are available for every model from iPhone 13 up to iPhone 18 Pro Max, including iPhone Air. Polished marble such as Nero Marquina is smooth and cool; split slate such as Black Rock stays matt and hardly shows fingerprints. Browse all models in iPhone cases, or go straight to iPhone 18 Pro Max cases.

Case Pro: your exact veneer, five frame colours

With the Case Pro, you pick the exact veneer in the configurator – the piece you will actually hold. Around it sits a whisper-thin TPU frame in five satin colours, a slightly raised lens ring and buttons in CNC-milled aluminium, with Camera Control protected under TPU. The Case Pro fits iPhone 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max. Stones include Verde Alpi marble, Black Venom quartzite and Transocean slate.

Not sure which line suits you? The side-by-side comparison lays them out.

What about the iPhone 17 Pro Max?

Still on the iPhone 17 Pro Max? Both lines are open to you – the classic stone case and the Case Pro. Material, weight and charging behaviour are the same; only the fit is made for your model.

Verdict: the best luxury iPhone case for you

  • Leather if you like patina and a warm feel.
  • Metal if a technical look matters more than grip.
  • Wood for a relaxed, natural look.
  • Carbon if thin and light is the main goal.
  • Stone if you want a one-off that feels cool in your hand and ages without patina.

Every ROXXLYN case is made by hand in Germany and comes with a Stone Passport: its own number, the origin of the stone and 12 months of breakage cover from delivery, in addition to the statutory warranty.

Luxury iPhone case FAQ

Does wireless charging work with a stone case?

Yes. The veneer is thin enough for your iPhone to charge wirelessly through the case. If you want accessories to snap on magnetically, add the MagSafe magnets as an option in the configurator.

Will my case look exactly like the photos?

For the classic case, the photos show an example – the veining on your veneer will run differently, since every piece is one of a kind. With the Case Pro, you choose your exact veneer yourself.

How do I look after a stone case?

A soft, dry or slightly damp cloth is all it needs. Avoid harsh cleaners, and with polished marble especially anything acidic.

How quickly does it ship?

Your case usually leaves the workshop within 1–3 working days. You also have the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal.
